you're the meaning in my life you're the inspiration!

The last two weeks of school have been all about Inspiration for the projects that are looming on the horizon. Gathering ideas and deciding what to make for each class. I love doing research for fun projects like the ones I have coming up and so here is a little sampler of things you can expect to see from me in the next few weeks:)

#1 Photo realism in illustrator, we have to choose a photograph to hopefully recreate in a way that looks pretty close to realism. for this project I'm excited to say I have chosen one of my favorite items in the whole world... The Fiestaware Pitcher!

#2 Is the old switcharoo in GD3... remember the board I made for my restaurant Parasol, well I wont be making anything else on that subject this term because in a staggering turn of events after all the research and excitement about creating and branding our own restaurants our instructor had us trade with each other at random... it was very disappointing news but at least I came out of it with an interesting new idea that I never would have tried.... my new restaurant Is........... The Boomtown Saloon an 1800's western saloon ye haw!

#3 For my first ever Photoshop assignment we are going to pick an art style it can be anything from Renaissance to comic books to base an illustration or photo edit on. It took me a really long time to choose because I want to do something that no one else in class will choose to do something less obvious but still fun. So after much thought I have landed on 1950's B science fiction movie posters! they have a really distinct style and consistent elements so I'm really excited to get started on this.

#4 Because 3 out of 4 of my classes have fun projects one has to be less than fun... this time it is my InDesign project, get this concept we will be creating a Newsletter about Newsletters, I'm serious. how lame is that?

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Today is the first official day of spring break, and in my opinion the most beautiful day of the year thus far. I am really grateful that Dan needed my car and my phone today because I had the best afternoon just exploring the neighborhood on foot by myself. I took a nice stroll down to Hawthorn and went in and out of the vintage stores, had a leisurely lunch at Cup and Saucer and ate an avocado sandwich in honor of St Patrick's day:)
I had such a good time enjoying people watching and seeing all the blooming flowers and trees but I have to say that my favorite part of the afternoon was on my way home I passed an old restored Victorian house and in the front yard there was a cute old man (probably in his late 70s) sitting in reclining lawn chair eating a HUGE ice cream sandwich... he looked like the happiest person on the planet. It made me REALLY happy.

I walked until my sandals (which have been in hibernation since last summer) gave me pretty legit blisters on the bottoms of my feet. I'm happy to be home again with the TV off every window in the apartment wide open and a warm cat on my feet, life is so good. I'm excited for the next few days... to play in the sun with the boyfriend and do some DIY stuff around the house.

spring break!

It feels good to be done with school for a few weeks. I'm excited to enjoy the warm weather, Portland Farmers markets and reading books for leisure instead of necessity.

zimbabwe the candybar | InDesign & Photoshop

The first project in Graphic Design 2 was to design a candy bar wrapper based on a randomly assigned country. The graphics were made by scanning individual sheets of tracing paper and converting each to bitmaps in Photoshop and then layering them all together in InDesign. My country was Zimbabwe. Here is the progression from tight rough to final.
